Groups whose proper quotients are virtually
abelian

The study of just non-P groups (that is, groups that do not have
property P but where every proper quotient does have property P) has
a considerable history. In this talk, I shall present some recent
result concerning just non-(abelian-by-finite) groups and exhibit
some interesting groups that arise.
