R-actions on compact Hausdorff spaces
by
Rolf Suabedissen
University of Oxford
If partial information about an action of the additive reals on a compact Hausdorff space is available, can we deduce more about the action? If we know, for example, that there are points with arbitrarily small period, must there be a fixed point? What if there are points of arbitrarily large period - is there necessarily a non-periodic point? There are some surprising answers and a lot of unchartered territory.
