A sequence of submodules

Let k be a field; let A be a group; and let M be a kA-module. We define an ordinal sequence (La M) of submodules of M, with nice properties. In particular, under certain conditions on k and A, if M = Õl Î L Ml is a Cartesian product of 1-dimensional kA-modules with characters cl, then the structure of the sequence (La M) mirrors in a particular sense the structure of the sequence of derived sets of the set of characters.
