You are invited to attend the first Summer Colloquium on General Topology and its Applications, with workshops on elementary submodels and topological algebra.

The theme of the Colloquium is Transfinite Recursion - a powerful tool. A series of lectures on this will be presented by invited speaker Stephen Watson (York University, Toronto). Hans-Peter Kunzi (Berne) has also accepted an invitation to speak at the Colloquium.

OBJECTIVES

The main objective of this meeting is to promote mathematical dialogue and research . To this end, participants are invited to contribute a 25-minute talk.

ABSTRACTS

Please submit abstracts in (some derivative of) Plain Tex including title, name and affiliation to Paul Gartside by June 15, 1997.

To stimulate discussion, there will be a daily `Problem session'. All participants are strongly urged to submit open problems to Paul Gartside as above.

ACCOMMODATION

The first Summer Topology Colloquium in Galway occurs in peak holiday season and accordingly accommodation is at a premium. Accommodation is available at the University residence, Corrib Village. The rate is IR#21 per delegate per night which includes continental breakfast. Delegates will be allocated en-suite bedrooms in 4-bedroomed apartments which also contain a fully eqipped kitchen and adjacent living area with colour T.V. Details follow regarding reservation of this accommodation - it must be stressed that this is secured by payment in full before May 30, 1997.

REGISTRATION FEE

IR#30 per delegate payable to UCG Conference Office preferably together with accommodation payment.

SUGGESTED SOCIAL EVENTS include day trip to Aran Islands, n-a side soccer game (contact Chris Good), events organised by the annual and hugely popular Galway Arts Festival to name but a few.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The airline Ryanair offers very competitive rates for flights from England to Dublin. Bus and rail services from Dublin to Galway are regular, with journey time approximately 3 hours.
