Mathematics Syllabus
Higher Diploma In Mathematics
The Diploma is aimed at
students with a good General Degree in Mathematics. It is intended to provide
a qualification in some of the more applicable mathematical disciplines.
Under certain circumstances the Higher Diploma may be accepted as an entrance
qualification to the M.Sc. Degree Course in Mathematics/Mathematical Science.
Entry requirement will be a primary degree (e.g. B.A. or B.Sc.) with commendation
or Distinction in Mathematics, or an equivalent to be determined by the
Department of Mathematics.
Duration: The course is of one academic year's duration.
The course for the Diploma will comprise lecture
courses with a total value of ten units together with an
essay-type project.
The lecture courses will consist of a
CORE of four two-unit courses and two one-unit
OPTIONS. A single
unit consists of one hour a week of lectures
throughout the academic year.
Options may involve certain prerequisites and will be chosen in consultation
with the Department. Options on offer in 2006/07 are listed below.
