Teaching and Learning Mathematics in a digital environment

The BA in Mathematics and Education programme was awarded the HP Innovation in Education prize in 2009.

Second year students have been using HP Tablet PCs during the year for their own studies and for the preparation and delivery of their teaching practice assignments.

Educational Resources developed with the HP Tablets

Students have created a lot of useful teaching resources with the tablets. Some of these will be displayed here very soon.

Mathematical resources created with LaTeX

A sample of students' mathematical work will be visible here. LaTeX is a powerful word-processing package which is used by professional mathematicians.

ICT in the classroom

Some of the blogs and wikis which students have been using are available to view here: Discussion was centred on a provocative paper of Dieudonné delivered to the OEEC in the early 1960s, which precipitated changes in school mathematics whose repercussions are still being felt today.

ICT for teachers outside the classroom

Ms Bonnie Long, a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Education has set up Teach Maths - a mathematics learning centre in Second Life.
