I am lecturer in Mathematics at NUI Galway. My research interests are mostly concerned the analysis of numerical schemes for differential equations.
I teach courses in Mathematics at all undergraduate and postgraduate levels; many of these courses have an emphasis on computational mathematics
During the current academic year, by administrative responsibilities include (the rather pleasant task of) co-organising our mathematics seminars.

Research

My area of research is Numerical Analysis. I am particularly interested in the design and analysis of numerical methods for singularly perturbed differential equations, and in the application of novel methods in numerical modelling. For more details, see my research page.

NEW: IRCSET Embark Initiative Postgraduate Scholarships (2012)

The Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering & Technology (IRCSET) offers scholarships to students who would like to pursue a PhD at an Irish institution. Funding is for 3 years, and provides for fees, a stipend of €16,000, and expenses for conference travel and computer equipment.

Myself and Michael Mc Gettrick are the organisers of the mathematics seminars during the current academic year.
Memberships: Irish Mathematical Society; SIAM; the UK and Ireland section of SIAM.
I was one of the organisers of ISUME3, the 3rd Irish Symposium for Undergraduate Mathematics Education, 15-16 December, 2006, National University of Ireland, Galway.
Along with Louise Nolan, Jerome Sheahan, and Michael Tuite, I'm helping coordinate NUI Galway's participation in the 2012 MCM, 9--13 Feb 2012. If you are an undergraduate student at NUI Galway and might be interested in representing your university in this competition, please contact one of us.
