Applications are invited for a Masters by Research in Mathematics supervised by Dr Niall Madden, School of Mathematics, Statistics and Applied Mathematics, NUI Galway.
The successful applicant will work as part of an interdisciplinary team spanning Informatics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and health sciences. He/she will have particular responsibility for designing and implementing numerical methods for systems on nonlinear equations that model patient response to certain drugs in real-time, and predict the impact on the patient of different drug regimes.
Work on this strand of the project will commence in September 2009, and is funded by Science Foundation Ireland under the Research Frontiers Scheme.
Requirements: Candidates should have a strong honours bachelor degree (equivalent to H1 or H2.1) in Mathematics or a related discipline. Knowledge of the analysis of numerical methods for differential equations, and experience of implementing these in systems such as Matlab will be very important.
Funding: Fees plus € 17,000 pa for up to 18 months.
Applications: In the first instance, please send enquiries to Dr Niall Madden (Niall.Madden@NUIGalway.ie). To apply, send an email with your CV and the names and contact details of three referees.
