Research Interests

• Finite fields
• Difference sets in abelian groups
• Sequences with ideal correlation properties

I am interested in nice problems in areas like the above. My Ph.D. thesis was on difference sets with classical parameters in abelian groups. I like problems which are combinatoric in nature, amenable to techniques from linear algebra, finite group theory and field theory. Other problems which I'm thinking about include Golomb Rulers and Costas Arrays.

Teaching Interests

My courses for this year are available through NUI Galway's Blackboard site. Like most of my colleagues, both here and throughout the world of mathematics, I am very interested in new ways to disseminate our subject. Like most educators, I enjoy teaching motivated students and I wish I were better able to motivate the others.
